Fresh Milk #5 : Locally Made

In my previous post about fresh milk, I discussed about FarmHouse brand from F&N. This brand is imported from Australia.

Then, I decided to open up to try other brands which can be equally good and cost me less – Farm Fresh. The milks are obtained and processed locally. The farm & factory known as Mawai Dairy Farm is based in  Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia. Starting on fresh milk generally gave me the pinch because I never really have to worry about buying milk or buying the right brand of milk for the first 16 months of Tricia’s life. I was exclusively breastfeeding. Since I started giving her fresh milk,  I had to make several trips to the supermarket to ensure that Tricia gets the fresh fresh milk and also the expenses of milk. Well, I don’t mind spulrging on this lil’ princess of mine but all in all, to ensure that I give her the best makes it all harder than I expected.

Right now, we’ve been using Farm Fresh for almost 4 months now. I loved it because :

  1. Flexible – I have the option to purchase the 1  or  2 liters bottled milk.
  2. Convenient – bottled and comes with a handle.
  3. NO Added Sugar or Preservatives – LOVE THIS ONE.
  4. Widely Available – can be seen at most supermarket/hypermarket.
  5. I can proudly say that I support Malaysian made product!

In a simplified version, here are some comparison between FarmHouse and Farm Fresh:

  1. FarmHouse are imported from Australia : Farm Fresh are locally produced.
  2. FarmHouse are packed in a 1 liter boxes  : Farm Fresh are packed in 1 or 2 liters bottles.
  3. FarmHouse can be available at big supermarkets : Farm Fresh are widely available.
  4. FarmHouse is creamier compared to Farm Fresh milk.
  5. 1 liter of FarmHouse cost approx. RM8.50 : 2 liters of Farm Fresh cost approx. RM11.80.

This review is based on my personal view and opinion. Your view/opinions may vary from mine. Hence, it is advisable for you to try out yourselves and discover your preferences. Both brands have been tested and my lil’ girl takes either one. We try to juggle in between brands to ensure that she is not too picky in tasting on one specific brand. Enjoy experimenting!

Hey Tracy, you left 1 thing out.. Comparing Farm House and Farm Fresh, It will take a long time for the milk from Australia to be imported in to Malaysia to be processed. My guess is that it would take a minimum of 1month as the only mode of transportation would be by shipment and not flight because of the financial budget. Hence Farm Fresh will be a much better choice when it comes to the FRESHNESS of the Milk..

My family is an avid supporter of our local product Farm Fresh as it tastes as close to the fresh milk you can get in Australia/New Zealand. For me, I too feel like Farm Fresh is the better choice as it is definitely fresher and as creamy as the australian counter part

You are right at some point. One of my main issue for changing to local milk is about the freshness of the milk. I bet there would be some sort of preservatives in the milk to keep it fresh. Nonetheless, I did not make any research on this. Hence, I could not comment much.
